Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams is the daughter of
Sandra Kay (Gale), an Ontario nurse and Lance Frederick McAdams a truck driver
and furniture moving. She was born in London, Ontario on November 17, 1978. She
is English--, Welsh-, Irish--, and Scottish. Rachel began acting when she was
an adult. At 13 she was in Shakespearean productions at the summer theatre
camps. Following graduation, Rachel received a BFA degree from York University
in Theater. After her role in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson episode (1998) in
which she was a lead in Slings and Arrows, a Canadian comedy-drama which
follows the struggles and triumphs of the Shakespearean theater group. In 2003,
she was awarded the Gemini award. The role of Regina George, in Mean Girls
(2004) immediately became a top-rated actress on the list of Hollywood's most
sought-after young actresses. Following that film she was cast alongside Ryan
Gosling as the romantic drama adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The
Notebook (2004). This was a huge success in the box office , and was the most
loved romantic comedy for an audience of young people. McAdams met Gosling
while filming. They began dating until mid-2007. McAdams' next film was comedy
Wedding Crashers (2006), the action thriller Red Eye (2004), as well as the holiday-themed
drama The Family Stone ((2005)). McAdams also explored independent film through
Married Life (2007) which was screened at the Toronto Film Festival. It also
featured Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, as well as Patricia Clarkson. McAdams
starred in The Lucky Ones (2007) and State of Play (2008), respectively. She
also appeared in The Time Traveler's Wife(2009) and Robert Downey Jr. in Guy
Ritchie's international hit Sherlock Holmes (2009). McAdams was the determined
producer of a failed morning television show in Morning Glory (2010), the
romantic fiancee of materialistic Owen Wilson in Woody Allen's Midnight in
Paris (2011), and returned to the romantic drama genre in the critically
acclaimed film The Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams is also a part
of Terrence Malick in To the Wonder (2012) and Noomi Rapace in Passion (2012)
in Brian De Palma's thriller.
